"The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God."
Romans 8:16
"Confess and believe to be saved. Only God could make the way so simple and certain."
How can you "know you are saved."
Matters of your eternal salvation can never be left to guess work or speculation. You cannot afford to
be wrong. The Bible is quite clear. "He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son does not have life. These
things have I written unto you that believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life."
1 John 5:12-13. There are many people - good people - who have assumed that being good is all that is required to go to
Heaven. They trust in their good works . . being moral, honest, good neighbors, charitable, often religious . . but that
is just not good enough. Ephesians 2:8-9. Someone said that going to church does not make you a Christian anymore than
sitting in a garage makes you a car! But this important discussion should not be dismissed with casual humor.
How good is good enough? How many good works make you good enough for Heaven? Would God be fair and
just if He left anything as important as your eternal soul to yours or others' opinion? If you were asked, "what are
you trusting to get you into Heaven," how would you answer? People will offer all kinds of answers to that question.
Yet it is not what you think or want that to be that matters, or anyone else's opinion that will make that certain.
There is only one entrance for every person in every nation, in every generation, and that single standard is given in
God's Word. Who else could you trust to make this important matter clear and specific for you?
That may seem to some exclusive or unfair, but actually a single standard is inclusive, being equally
fair and just to all. If it will not be adjusted to include someone who fails to meet that standard, neither can it be
manipulated to exclude anyone that does! Anyone who accepts God's Son as their Savior can and will be included -
whatever their nationality, language, origin of birth, personal history, or circumstances of life. "Whoever calls on
the name of the Lord shall be saved." Romans 10:13. Now wouldn't that seem to be good news? No one will be refused.
Here's the simplest answer of God's Word. "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other
name under Heaven given among men whereby we must be saved." Acts 4:12. But how do you do that? "That if you confess
with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For
with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Romans 10:9-10.
Confess and believe, so simple.
The Bible uses the Greek word for "confess - homologeo, to say the same thing as." "If we confess our
sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9. You
are saved when, from your heart, you "say the same things" as God says - about your sins, about Jesus dying for your
sins, and ask Jesus to be that Savior to you. It is specific and certain.
Here's how you can know that you are saved: ask Jesus to forgive you, with faith in Him as your
Savior; listen to the Spirit's quiet whisper in your heart that you are His and He is yours; then believe and rejoice
that God has done exactly what He said! There is no greater joy now, and forever!
My prayer for you today is that you never leave this to chance, but be certain in your heart.
